Love is Near
Here are the lyrics for "I'm in the Mood for Love" as sung by Louis Armstrong

I'm in the mood for love simply because you're near me
Funny but when you're near me, I'm in the mood for love.
Heaven is in your eyes, bright as the stars we're under,
Oh, is it any wonder, I'm in the mood for love.
Why stop to think of whether this little dream might fade,
We??ve put our hearts together - now we are one, I'm not afraid.
If there's a cloud above, if it should rain, we'll let it.
But for tonight forget it, I'm in the mood for love.

I'm a man of broad musical tastes. I like blues and roots music. I can appreciate a little bluegrass now and again. I love Led Zeppelin and Queen, the Beatles and Stones. I crave Jimmy Rodgers and Eazy-E in equal portions. I need a little Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong once in a while or my soul gets thirsty. Willie Nelson is my guru. Neil Diamond "Sing(s) my life with his words" more than I care to admit. I'm an eclectic guy.

Louis didn't write this song. His wasn't the first (or probably not even the best known) version of this song, but it's my favorite. The trumpet that opens the song is so perfect. It's sexy and sassy, melodic and meaningful. Louis is making love to his sweetheart with his horn (no double entendre intended) before he ever does so with his words.

The saying is "absence makes the heart grow fonder" but Louis is making it clear that nearness is key with your lover, and not just for physical romance. You and your partner need to spend time together and in today's world it's harder than ever. Long hours, long commutes, tons of extracurricular commitments, add in kids, daily errands and family and friend relationships and it's a wonder we ever get together with our honey's.

Oh, but when you do....

Louis says it perfectly, "Heaven is in your eyes, bright as the stars we're under. Oh, is it any wonder, I'm in the mood for love?" Don't worry about "setting the mood." Forget about planning activities with one another. Just find time to be together. Over coffee in the morning. Over a cocktail in the evening. On the porch during a rainstorm. Over Skype or Facetime from a world away from each other. "(You'll be) in the mood for love..." simply because you're with them.

Key Lesson: Time. Find it. Make it. Create it from thin air, if you have to. But spend it with your lover. You'll thank each other (and me) later.
